Understanding the benefits of Montessori & Educational Games in childhood Development
Greetings, parents and enthusiasts of all things Montessori!
As I sit down to share some of my personal insights from our journey, let's delve into the tangible benefits of Montessori education and the role that educational games play in fostering childhood development. Developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, the teaching methods emphasize self-directed learning, hands-on activities, and creatio of a carefullly prepared environment. The principles aligh with fostering independence, curiosity, and and a love for learning.
Hands-on Learning: Montessori classrooms ae characterised by carefully designed materials that encourage exploration. Practical life excersizes, sensorial materials and specilised learning tools offer children opportunities to engage with their environment in a structured yet self-driven manner. This provides a solid foundation for cognitive and motor skills development.
Autonomy in Learning: Autonomy in Montessori doesn't mean a lack of structure; rather, it's about providing freedom within carefully defined limits. The learning environment is organized and prepared with age-appropriate materials, giving children the freedom to choose activities that align with their interests while respecting the boundaries set by the curriculum.
Self-Correction and Learning from Mistakes: In Montessori, when children work with materials or complete tasks, they are encouraged to check their work on their own. This means they look at what they've done and try to spot any mistakes by themselves. It's like being your own detective! Why It's Important: When children find mistakes on their own, it's not seen as a bad thing. Instead, it's a chance to learn something new. Montessori believes that understanding and fixing mistakes by yourself is a powerful way to learn. It's a bit like figuring out a puzzle – the more mistakes you find and correct, the better you get at it.
Montessori wants children to feel confident in facing challenges. When they learn to correct their own mistakes, it helps them become more resilient. Resilience is like having a superpower that makes you strong, even when things are a bit tough.
This process also helps in developing a growth mindset. A growth mindset is when you believe you can get better at something if you practice and learn from mistakes. Montessori wants children to see mistakes not as a roadblock, but as stepping stones to becoming even better learners.
So, in simple terms, self-correction and self-assessment in Montessori mean that kids learn to spot and fix their own mistakes. It's a cool way of becoming really good at something and feeling super proud of yourself!
Personal Journey: Trying out Montessori at home has made our daily routine feel more organized and purposeful. What I love the most is how it encourages my son to explore things on his own, at his own pace. This makes his learning experience deeper and more meaningful.
When we moved to Doha, we actively searched for a Montessori Kindergarten, and luckily, we found the perfect one in Al Dafnah. The staff was super friendly, and the facilities great. Aydin, my son, showed incredible progress in a short time. It was amazing to witness him learning more words and understanding the concept of sharing. Montessori has truly made a positive impact on his growth and learning journey.
